I finally got my arse into gear, got my kindle working, and read Grad Night by Carver Pike! I know, I know I've been a slacker and I'm behind the times. I'm glad I finally did.
So as most of you know it's about a motley group of teenagers (mostly slackers) that invite their teachers to their Year 12 Grad Night. Without giving away too many spoilers, the teachers invited are considered the bad ones by some of the students. Ones who have made them fail at getting into college or ruined their life in some way or another. Now it's the kids turn to pay them back. And do they pay them back BIG TIME - some pay with their lives in very creative ways.
Now, I thought it was a great read from the start, the pop culture is superb, a few surprises sprinkled in, and what I can only guess are Easter eggs for Pike's Diablo series, are intriguing. Let's put it this way I want to read the Diablo series even more now! Especially the Splatterpunk Award-nominated one, Slaughter Box. I'm chomping at the bit for that one!
I'm giving it 4.5 stars. Why? I wanted more detail in the gore. Sorry, I'm that kind of girl. I felt it was a lot tamer than I expected. Still, an awesome book and I highly recommend it. By the way, I also felt as if I was reading a young 'King' in the making. Carver is a force to be reckoned with.
